The name of a local fallen Vietnam War veteran was honored Tuesday after his name had previously been excluded from the city’s memorial.
A crowd came together to honor Eugene Manselle, who was added to those who made the ultimate sacrifice decades ago, but may have erroneously been left off after his family moved to Hartford, according to Leslie Manselle, his sister.
Manselle’s forgotten service was discovered by Matt Pavia, a teacher, who writes about locals who died in the Vietnam War.
According to his brother, Manselle left high school early to serve his country, but sacrificed his life at 21 years old in 1968 while protecting members of his platoon.
Manselle’s name is now honored twice, since he’s also featured on Hartford’s memorial.
