A local Little League team is making history in its quest for a regional title.
The Stamford American 11U All Stars played their second game today in the regionals, which is their version of the World Series. Stamford lost to Pennsylvania today 3-2 but is still alive in the tournament.
"It's been an amazing run these guys are on right now," said Stamford American coach Jeff Moore.
The Stamford American 9- to 11-year-old All Stars are coming off back-to-back walk-off wins in the Section 1 Championship and then they went to win their first state championship in the U11 division.
Their only loss came in the first game of the season. "And from that moment, the team clicked and we haven't lost a game since," said Moore.
Moore spoke to News 12 Connecticut Wednesday morning from the team's hotel in Massachusetts.
"This ride has been great. It's an amazing group of kids. They're their friends on and off the field. They really clicked this summer. Everybody's together. The parents are together," said Moore.
Stamford advanced to the regionals and shut out a team from Maine on Monday at the tournament in Beverly, Massachusetts.
"It's just it's been such a ride, and it's an amazing thing to watch them grow and the amount of baseball they played. And they get better every day and it just - it's a happy time for me that they don't understand how much they do for me if they make our job as coaches really easy to be honest," said Moore.
Meanwhile, the Fairfield National 12U are heading to Bristol for regional play and an opportunity to play in the Little League World Series. There is a send-off at 7 p.m. Thursday at Tunxis Hill Park in Fairfield.
Fairfield National won the state title last week. Over three years, this group of kids has compiled a remarkable 40-0 record.
