The Stamford Board of Education met Tuesday night to discuss a sex scandal at Stamford High School involving a former teacher.
At the meeting, the board was supposed to ask questions regarding the internal investigation into ex-teacher Danielle Watkins. It was held at the Stamford Government Center.
Watkins admitted to having sex with a 17-year-old student at Stamford High School. She was also accused of giving the victim and his friend marijuana. The former teacher was sentenced in March to five years in prison after being charged with sexual assault and risk of injury to a child.
The law firm covering the investigation, Shipman and Goodwin, allegedly found evidence proving that some high school administrators withheld information and did not protect the victims in the case against Watkins.
Parents in Stamford say they expected to hear news about the investigation into the scandal, but walked away without answers.
Instead of providing answers, the law firm suggested that the board wait and have a lawyer representing them before discussing the investigation.
Among those in attendance were concerned citizens, parents and former Stamford administrators. They say they are appalled by the lack of progress made by the board.
"I am really furious that the board says they have no authority," one attendee said. "What the hell is their job?"
The board says they are planning to convene for another meeting next week and hope to have their lawyer decided on and present. The public will be allowed back for the upcoming meeting.
