The city of Stamford has eliminated trans fats from all of its eateries.
A new ordinance banning the substance took effect Tuesday. Now, every restaurant, caterer and cafeteria in the city is required to be trans-fat free.
All of the restaurants News 12 Connecticut visited had made the switch to zero trans fats before the deadline. Some owners say they have been taking the healthier route for years.
Health inspectors will be checking shelves for trans-fat free supplies as part of their routine inspections. The city?s health director says anyone found not complying will be fined and re-inspected.
