Several organizations came together at Latham Park in Stamford at an anti-hate rally Saturday.
The Stamford Family YMCA hosted the event in response to the rise in incidents of hate and violence towards the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
The organizers of the event say they are “pushing back against any hate” and hope that the messages they send through the event will spread throughout the community.
Elected officials and city leaders brought a message of unity while speaking during the event. According to a Team 12 analysis of recent FBI data, hate crimes rose dramatically against Black and Asian Americans in the tri-state area in 2020.
The organizers plan on doing more rallies in the future to bring the community together.
