A family-owned financial firm in Stamford is continuing their Thanksgiving outreach campaign for the needy.
For the past 23 years, Diddel and Diddel has filled Thanksgiving baskets for hundreds of families as part of their "Baskets from Heaven" campaign. The campaign began as a food drive, but has now grown so large there is no longer room to collect all the food in their office.
Volunteers helped employees Tuesday as they filled hundreds of baskets with 10 tons of donated food. The baskets contain all the fixings for Thanksgiving dinner, along with fresh-cut flowers.
Scott and Suzanne Diddel say they began the campaign after learning from social service groups and local churches that many working poor families in Stamford and Greenwich need extra help this time of year. They call their campaign "Baskets from Heaven" because a grandmother on one of their first deliveries called them angels.
