Stamford mayor unveils $747 million operating budget

City officials say there will be investments in parks and sustainability, including accessible bathrooms, playground renovations, citywide tree planting and drainage improvements.

Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons presented the city’s 2026–27 operating budget on Thursday.

City officials outlined several key figures within the proposal:

  • The combined budget for the city and the Board of Education is just over $747 million, a 6.3% combined increase.

  • Of that amount, $73 million is set aside for projects and investments across Stamford.

  • The city plans to hire eight new firefighters, with additional funding for police and fire equipment.

  • Stamford will provide $3 million to support 500 new and upgraded affordable housing units.

  • For education, $10 million will go to school construction, with another $14 million for improvements across public schools.

The budget also includes funding for roads, sidewalks and pedestrian safety upgrades.
