The eighth annual Maple Sugar Festival gave people a behind-the-scenes look at how syrup is made.

The event took place at the Maple Sugar Farmhouse at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center.

"We're showing people basically how to go from tree to table, so how to tap trees, how to identify trees, how they boil down, how they used to do it in the past," said Director of Education Lisa Monachelli.

Visitors got a firsthand look at how syrup gets its consistency before learning how a tree is actually tapped.

Monachelli also reinforced the importance of investing in community farms because it adds money to the local economy.

Before the fun was over, a pancake brunch was served with the facility's freshly made syrup.

The event also featured family activities including face painting, arts and crafts and live music.

The nature center makes its own maple syrup from over 200 maple trees at the facility. They are one of only two official maple sugar producers in Fairfield County.
