The completion of a new sidewalk project in Stamford will make it safer for pedestrians exploring the city.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony held to celebrate the completion of the Lower Summer Street Pedestrian Promenade took place Wednesday morning in Stamford.
The project transformed the street into a more pedestrian-friendly space that allows for expanded outdoor dining and enhanced streetscape design.
This was done by widening the sidewalk to mitigate the risk of pedestrian fatalities.
Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons says that the project was a way to help benefit business and pedestrians.
"We also widened the street to allow for more outdoor dining and restaurant space," the mayor said, "and we beautified the street by planting more flowers, trees, enhanced lighting. All of that took a lot of work so we are happy it is completed."
