A man left the scene of an accident and was found with an illegal gun in Stamford, police say.

Police responded to the McDonald's on East Main Street Friday for an accident involving a BMW sedan and a scooter.

Witnesses told police the driver of the BMW, Jarrel Grant, left the scene.

Officers found Grant nearby sitting in the visibly damaged vehicle in a parking lot at 821 East Main St.

During a search, police say they found a semi-automatic handgun.

Along with motor vehicles charges, Grant was charged with illegal possession of a firearm.
