Crews in Stamford responded to more than 70 incidents during Tuesday's torrential rain and flash flooding, including 35 water rescues.
While the floodwater has receded, some residents on Dale Street near Ursula Place spent Wednesday morning pumping water out of their basements. Fire officials estimate that Dale Street was covered with about 3 feet of water during the storm. They say the flooding there was unprecedented.

"Most of the little kids were kind of freaking out, but the older kids were kind of calm," says Alison Bouchard. "But the bus driver handled it and she calmed everyone down."
Fire officials say the water was above the bumper of the bus.
"I really can't say enough about the efforts of the crew," says Deputy Fire Chief Matthew Palmer. "They really kept the kids in great spirits and were really concerned for their safety.

A nearby neighbor gave firefighters a boat, and crews safely moved all 31 kids and the driver from the bus to drier ground. Another bus picked them up.
