City officials are taking action after the drinking water at 15 Scofieldtown homes has tested positive for cancer-causing pesticides.

Three homes in the area first tested positive in August. Officials believe the problem stems from a landfill under Scofieldtown Park.

On Monday evening, the board of representatives approved $2 million for a city water main to be brought into the neighborhood. They also passed a resolution to wave water main installation fees.

Construction on the new city water main lines is expected to break ground by Oct. 15.
