Stamford-based Americares crews are working to get critical medicine, hygiene kits and cleaning supplies to central Tennessee in the wake of tornadoes that left at least 25 dead.
It was the second deadliest tornado outbreak in the state's history, ripping through four counties and causing widespread damage early Tuesday morning.
More than 900 miles away, Americares has been in constant contact with partner health clinics in the area.

“Some of our partners have likened it to waking up in a battlefield,” said Brian Scheel, director of emergency response for Americares. “…It is a very traumatic thing.”
Scheel says shipments are underway for medical centers in Mount Juliet and Nashville. That includes critical wound care supplies, insulin and heart medications.
In total, more than $250,000 worth of items will be sent.
Anyone interested in donating can do so on the Americares website.
