Connecticut Attorney General William Tong is raising concerns about semi-automatic pistols made by Southport-based Sturm Ruger & Co.

Tong says the company's RXM pistol can be easily converted into a fully automatic weapon, some as fast or faster than those used by the military.

"Ruger is on notice," Tong said. "Their RXM pistol can be easily converted to an illegal, lethal fully automatic weapon. They can modify their product to be safer, or they can continue to profit from crime and violence and answer to a lawsuit."

Hartford police reported recovering 53 machine gun conversion devices in 2023 alone.
