Secretary of the State Denise Merrill reaffirmed her stance today that the Job Creation Party in Bridgeport will not have a candidate on the ballot in November.
Mayor Bill Finch had hoped to run under the party after losing the Democratic primary to former mayor Joe Ganim.
The members formally nominated Finch as their candidate yesterday.
Merrill said today the party missed the Sep. 2 deadline to endorse a candidate so she is legally forbidden from accepting their petition.
Finch's campaign disagrees with her assessment and believes she is misinterpreting the law. The campaign plans to challenge the ruling in court.
