Candidates in the Democratic primary for the 126th District House race are campaigning hard.
With a little more than a week to go before voting day on Aug. 11, incumbent State Rep. Charlie Stallworth is trying to get out his message. He is running on a platform of funding education, creating jobs, protecting the environment and improving the infrastructure of Bridgeport.
"First, I want to celebrate the fact that we just passed a major piece of legislation in the state of Connecticut with police accountability, making sure that we support and protect good cops, and also making sure that those who are not good cops and those who do not follow protocol to know that you will be held liable – so it's a great piece of legislation that we just passed," he says.
Meanwhile, challenger Tony Barr says he'll spend the next nine days going door-to-door in the 126th District. He is running on a platform of, "promoting education, economic development and social justice by sticking up for the little guy."
Bar says, "The school system, the public school system will be put first, the hardworking people will be put first, the people that are losing their properties to the WPCA water pollution bills – that will no longer play. I'm here for the improvement in the quality of life for the people in my district and anyone in the city of Bridgeport."
Whoever wins the race next Tuesday will go on to face the Republican challenger in the general election in November.
