A state representative is proposing a bill for schools to recognize Three Kings Day as a holiday.
Only certain school districts, like Bridgeport, Stratford and Stamford recognize the holiday, but state Rep. Christopher Rosario proposed that all schools will follow suit.
In Bridgeport, the city hosted its annual Three Kings Day event at Luis Munoz Marin Elementary School on Monday.
"I remember as a child going to the Klein Memorial when Mayor Bucci was mayor and receiving gifts from the Three Kings and we want to continue the tradition," recalled Rosario.
The holiday, also known as Epiphany, celebrates the story of the three wise men who traveled to Bethlehem with gifts for baby Jesus.
"We celebrated that and again the importance of our children to keep that culture alive," Councilmember Maria Valle.
"We want to make sure that either they take the day off or allow those children and those families to not be charged with an absence and can make up that work another day," said Rosario.
Rosario says his bill has a positive backing and a good chance to pass in the legislative session, which starts Wednesday.
