As teachers and students wonder what this school year will look like, one thing seems clear – it is going to take brand-new tools and strategies.
The state unveiled a new tool for teachers Friday – a course for educators to brush up on social-emotional learning.
Mark Brackett runs the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. He says in the middle of a global pandemic, economic crisis and high racial tension – education isn't a one-size-fits-all solution.
The 10-hour online course will be offered free to all Connecticut school staff. Education officials say it's crucial for getting students back to learning this year.
School counselors say the students will continue to benefit for the rest of their lives.
The course was funded by a donation from the Dalio Education Initiative.
Teachers and school staff completing the course will receive a certificate from the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence.
