More than 130 Bronx workers will be out of a job come October when the Stella D'Oro bakery shuts its doors for the final time.
The workers, who spent nearly a year on strike protesting against wage and benefits cuts, will receive severance pay. Stella D'Oro was purchased by the Lance Incorporated food company, which will move the cookie factory to Ohio.
Shop owners in the area say they expect to lose business once the factory closes in October. Union representative Mike Fillipou says the workers are planning to boycott Lance Inc. products.
Former parent company of Stella D'Oro, Brynwood Partners, will retain ownership of the Kingsbridge factory.
