Rain looms late in the week after dry, mild stretch in The Bronx

The continued dry pattern with occasional 25 mph gusts will keep the brush fire risk elevated. Much-needed rain returns later this week.

WEDNESDAY: There is a stray shower chance just after midnight tonight but expect most of the borough to stay dry. This dry pattern will fizzle a severe line of storms across Pennsylvania and Upstate New York before it can reach the coast. It is a cold front, so expect cooler weather on Wednesday. It will be around 75 at best.
ALONG CAME POLLEN: The very dry air will also keep tree pollen very high, especially maple pollen. The very high pollen will remain through the end of the workweek, as the next true rain chance does not arrive until Thursday night.
UV INDEX: The UV index will be an 8, or "very high" again on Wednesday, as the sun angle continues to rise. The intensity of the sun is the same as earlier in August, so you can burn within just a half-hour of direct exposure.
REST OF THE WEEK: It will be even cooler on Thursday with a sea breeze across the entire borough. Highs will top out in the upper 60s on Thursday with more clouds too. Rain showers are likely to start Friday and finish the day, too. The best chance of heavier rain and a downpour will be before the morning commute Friday, then late Friday evening with a pop-up thunderstorm. The chance for rain continues into the weekend as storm energy remains, with rain and possible thunderstorms much of the day. There is even an opportunity for strong-to-severe storms, stay tuned and follow Allan along, @AWxNYC for hyperlocal updates all week. A lingering shower also can't be ruled out for Sunday.
