As travel ramps up ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, there is some weather to pay attention to. While Long Island is not expected to see any significant flooding or wind damage Tuesday, there is going to be a round of rain that can slow down driving and lower visibility a bit.
The first showers will develop after around 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Pockets of heavier rain are possible after 7 p.m. and through around midnight. The wind will become breezy through the day as well.
Wednesday will be better for travel overall, but there can be a few scattered showers and even an isolated downpour throughout the day. It is not going to be a full washout.
THANKSGIVING UPDATE
We still expect Thanksgiving to be dry, but you will want to bundle up! It will be windy with some gusts around 30 to 35 mph. High temperatures will only be in the 40s. This means that wind chills will be in the 30s at best.
WILL THE NYC THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE BALLOONS FLY?
While it is a close call, the current forecast keeps the wind a little below the threshold for needing to consider grounding the balloons.
Expect the same local weather for Friday. In fact, Friday's gusts can be as high as around 40 mph with wind chills in the 20s and 30s all day, but it will be dry again.
If you are planning on traveling this weekend, it looks mostly fine other than a chance for late-day rain showers on Sunday.
Next week is likely to be unsettled for the first few days of December with a mix to rain chance in the middle of next week.
Have a great night!
