A new transportation study ranks Route 1 among Connecticut's most dangerous roads for pedestrians. The Tri-State Transportation Campaign says seven pedestrians were killed on the road between 2008 and 2010. The watchdog group says the road is dangerous for pedestrians because it does not have sidewalks or well-defined crosswalks. Department of Transportation officials and local police say they are constantly trying to improve safety in the area, but that drivers are just as much at fault as pedestrians.
