Americares to send supplies to earthquake victims
Emergency aid organization Americares is packing desperately needed medical supplies to send to Ecuador after a 6.2-magnitude aftershock hit the country Wednesday.
Ecuador is already dealing with massive loss after Saturday's 7.8-magnitude earthquake that killed more than 500 people.
"The immediate trauma that happens after an earthquake is one thing, and we think 'oh well, just bandage it up and everything will be OK,'" says Americares spokesperson Jed Selkowitz. "But wounds need to be repeatedly treated, kept clean and sanitary."
Selkowitz says a team landed in Ecuador late Tuesday night, but supplies won't be sent until later in the week.
Americares says it is only taking financial donations. The mayor's office says the Stamford Senior Center is collecting diapers, foods and medical supplies.
