Sunday marked the five-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, which slammed western Connecticut and the tri-state area in 2012, causing extensive damage.
The storm damaged homes, brought down trees and knocked out power to more 600,000 homes throughout the state.
In Fairfield Beach, around half a dozen houses washed out to sea and around 1,000 more were flooded.
Sally Zien's family owns Recovery Plan, a firm that helps people prepare for disasters.
"Now when I go to people who say 'Why do I need this?' I can offer personal experience," she says.
The Ziens work with companies worldwide and are now developing an app for howeowners.
Throughout Connecticut, four people - including a firefighter from Easton - were killed.
Damages totaled nearly $360 million.
