The more than 250,000 visitors that spend time each year at Silver Sands will now have some new amenities to enjoy.
Despite a chilly day on the beach, Gov. Danell Malloy and DEEP officials were at Silver Sands Monday to cut the ribbon on the brand-new facilities.
The improvements at Silver Sands include three new buildings with bathrooms, changing rooms, a snack bar and a boardwalk to keep everything accessible.
Gov. Malloy says the new facilities will encourage people from Milford and other parts of the state to come enjoy the park.
"Our parks are meant to be used by everyone in the state of Connecticut, and therefore everyone needs to have access, and everyone needs the facilities necessary to enjoy the investments that have been made," says Malloy. "And that's why this particular investment is so very, very important."
The new buildings are still under construction, but officials say they'll be ready and open to the public well in advance of Memorial Day weekend.
