Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim will now be forced to defend his seat in a Democratic primary.

The Bridgeport Registrar of Voters officially qualified state Sen. Marilyn Moore to be on the ballot Tuesday.

"I am running for mayor because I want Bridgeport to be a place for everyone, where every worker has the opportunity to prosper and thrive," Moore said. "I want a city where every child has access to a quality education in their neighborhood. I want a city where all residents feel safe and welcome. Bridgeport can do better. We can do better. Now it is the time to fight for a city we can be proud of."

Voters will decide on a Democratic nominee on Sept. 10.
