State health officials say an East Lyme resident has died after testing positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis.
The health department also says that a second person tested positive for the disease. That person remains hospitalized.
An adult in Danbury has also tested positive for West Nile virus.
Officials say these cases emphasize the need to take precautions against mosquito-borne illness, including by using repellant and avoiding going outdoors at dusk and dawn.
