State office seeks to suspend license of lawyer charged in Jennifer Dulos murder case
The state's office of disciplinary counsel announced it is seeking to suspend the license of civil attorney Kent Mawhinney who is charged in connection to the murder case of Jennifer Dulos.
The office of chief disciplinary counsel made the announcement Wednesday.
A petition was filed in superior court that read in part, "The office is seeking the interim suspension and appointment of an attorney turstee to protect the interests of Kent D. Mawhenny's clients."
Mawhenny was charged with conspiracy to commit murder last week in connection to the Dulos murder case.
Mawhenny has been jailed at Bridgeport Correctional since he was charged and has been unable to post his $2 million bond.
In arrest warrants released last week, police revealed allegations that Mawhinney's cellphone pinged a tower May 31 near the Windsor Rod & Gun Club, where hunters had found a hole dug into the ground May 18.
The hunters told police that the hole was big enough for a human body, and that inside the hole was a tarp and unopened bags of lime, which officials say can be used to cover the smell of dead bodies.
The hole was found covered up in June.
Police later dug up the site but did not find anything.
The petition on the fate of Mawhinney's license is slated to be heard before a judge in Hartford Superior Court on Jan. 28.
Mawhinney is expected back in Stamford Superior Court on Feb 7.
