The push to relocate the Stratford Animal Shelter has hit a snag, leaving some volunteers wanting the Town Council to step up its effort.

The call for increased effort by the Town Council comes after the chosen site was found to be contaminated.

Marjean O'Malley, of Stratford Volunteers, says the current shelter is outdated, cramped, crumbling and is possibly a disease-prone home. Volunteers like O'Malley have been pushing for the shelter to be relocated.

"This is one more step back instead of moving forward with an alternative property," said O'Malley.

Town Council Member Mike Henrick says the council isn't going to budge on the location. He says the Department of Environmental Protection is set to begin testing soon. Henrick says eventually the new shelter will be built.
