A Stratford car dealership teamed up with a nonprofit to give soccer balls to children around the world.
Kick For Nick has donated 53,000 soccer balls to children in 50 countries since 2006.
Sean Curran of Curran Volkswagen says his wife grew up with Pfc. Nick Madaras. Madaras played soccer his whole life. When he served in Iraq, he saw children playing with cans and balled up rags.
Madaras' father sent soccer balls overseas to give underprivileged children the opportunity to play the sport. Madaras was killed in Iraq in 2006 when he was 19 years old.
Curran Volkswagen is donating $10,000 for a $20,000 giveaway during the Kick For Nick Memorial Day Challenge on Monday at Lilly Field in Wilton.
Kick For Nick opened an academy in Bridgeport last fall.
