Stratford Fire Department took on the Brakettes Thursday night in a softball game to raise money for pediatric cancer research.
The annual event was dedicated to Gabriella Reitmeyer, daughter of retired Assistant Chief Doug Reitmeyer, who died at 15.
Assistant Chief Michael Camperlengo told News 12 Connecticut firefighting is not just about public safety -- it is about community service too.
"We're hoping to get the community out here to recognize the fact that there's local families struggling with stuff like this and there is help out there for them," Camperlengo said.
