Just days before the deadline, Stratford Mayor James Miron has decided to sign the Town Council's proposed budget. Miron says although the budget doesn't leave enough cash to fund emergencies like hurricanes and unexpected events like record snowfall or police overtime, vetoing it would cost the town about $1.5 million in borrowing costs. Miron says he will reluctantly sign the $163 million budget, which promises to pump up the average homeowner's tax bill by more than $340. Miron originally wanted an even larger tax increase for residents.
