Thursday marks the start of Pride Month, and the Town of Stratford is showing its support.
A Pride flag raising ceremony was held on the steps of Stratford Town Hall Thursday morning.
Mayor Laura Hoydick read a proclamation recognizing Pride Month in the Town of Stratford and honoring the contributions of the LGBTQ+ community.
Members of the community, including clergy and students, attended.
A high school student spoke at the event about the importance of gay and transgender rights.
"I want to acknowledge my privilege that I live in Connecticut, and I'm free from all the, like, harmful legislation that we are seeing in Florida and all the southern states that is meant to harm transgender youth such as myself," said El Youngquist.
This is Stratford's fifth year flying the Pride flag for the month of June.
