Six weeks after a fatal house fire, neighbors petitioned for additional fire hydrants in the area.
The fire broke out at 48 Kathleen Drive in September and killed two people. Witnesses say firefighters struggled to find water to extinguish the flames. Firefighters were forced to run the hose 2,500 feet in order to reach the house, about the length of eight football fields.
Nearby residents delivered a petition to Town Hall Monday urging officials to install more fire hydrants. Most of the community is said to agree to pay the cost for additional hydrants.
