Stratford state Rep. Terry Backer has died.
The 61-year-old veteran lawmaker died early Tuesday morning following a five-year battle with brain cancer.
Backer, a Democrat, represented the 121st District for 12 terms starting in 1992.
The lifelong environmental activist also founded the Soundkeeper Fund, which is dedicated to maintaining and preserving Long Island Sound.
Services for Backer will be held Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home in Norwalk. His funeral will follow on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church, also in Norwalk.
