A Stratford teen with special needs and diabetes is asking the public for help obtaining a diabetic alert dog to help him.
Tyler Stanziale, 18, says he really loves dogs. Now he's hoping a very special kind of dog can help him with a very special need.
On top of having special needs, the 18-year-old senior at Bunnell High School in Stratford was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes right in the middle of the pandemic.
He is being raised by his grandparents because his mom, Kay Stanziale of Bridgeport, is severely disabled.
His grandmother says Tyler was using the same kind of blood sugar monitoring devise his grandfather uses, which goes on the belly, but that it was not working for him.
Tyler saw a video on TikTok about a diabetic alert dog.
Those cost between $8,000 and $20,000, so he decided to start a GoFundMe campaign to raise the money to buy one.
November is National Diabetes Awareness month.
