Student recognized for helping others
A sixth-grade student with disabilities from Bridgeport was recognized Sunday for his efforts to help other kids.
State and local leaders honored Angel Marrero, 13, at Curiale School for building awareness about the needs of young people like him who have special challenges.
Community activist Harry Bell contacted News 12 Connecticut a few weeks ago about a financial need Marrero's family faced to help him with an expensive visual devise he uses for reading.
News 12 put Marrero in touch with the Needs Clearing House, which has given them a $300 cash gift.
Local leaders say Marrero is a role model for other kids because he excels academically in spite of his visual challenges and encourages them to do their best, regardless of any special limitations they may have.
