Students across the state compete in Connecticut’s largest robotic competition

More than 100 middle and high school robotics teams from across the state are competing for the title of state champion.
The VEX Robotics V5 State Championship kicked off at the Bridgeport’s Total Mortgage Arena on Monday.
Alison Merriman and her team from Masuk High School in Monroe have been working hard programming and gearing their robot up for this very task.
“It’s a lot of math, also teamwork. We work with many different people,” said Merriman.
The two-day event puts students STEM skills to the test. Each robot from each team must place rings onto posts.
"It's a lot of testing, a lot of tinkering, you need a lot of tenacity, you need a lot of grit, and to keep going,” said Jackson Virte, a student at Middletown High School.
"We're not shooting for the next Tesla, but we are shooting for every day you get better, and you work to build something better,” said Connecticut Vex Robotics coordinator, Bill McDonough.
Qualifying teams will head to the VEX Robotics World Championship.
