A Stamford middle school held an event Tuesday night to help students prepare for the transition from elementary school to middle school, and from middle school to high school.
Study skills expert Michelle Sagalyn was at Cloonan Middle School to give parents and students tips to ease transitioning to a new school.
Sagalyn says she sees extremely bright children who may struggle with organization, note-taking, planning and studying. She says often those students struggle when making the transition to middle or high school. Sagalyn says summer is a great time for students to develop those skills.
One of her tips is to keep children reading over the summer with a family book club, where the children pick out the books. Other tips include letting the children help plan trips to the grocery store.
Sagalyn says as simple as these life skills may seem, learning organization and time management pay off big in the classroom.
