Some people in the LGBTQ+ community are facing greater
barriers when it comes to accessing adequate health care, according to a new
study from the Journal of Gay and Lesbian Social Services.
It says patients in rural areas are more likely to face
stigma around their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Overall, just 11% of physicians practice in rural
communities.
Researchers say doctors in those areas are largely
unequipped to address the issues facing members of the LGBTQ+ community, like
depression and anxiety.
