Researchers who studied about 330 children under the age of four say the more the kids tuned in to TV, they more they tune out of conversation.
According to researchers at the Seattle Children's Research Institute, for every hour of television they watch, children utter fewer sounds, use fewer words and engage in less conversation. Local experts say parents should get their children involved in interactive activities.
"Get them thinking, get them talking. They'll develop various skills. Be involved with them. That's the best thing a parent can do," says Norma Kirwan, of Optimus Health Care.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under two not watch any TV and that kids older than two be limited to one-to-two hours of quality television programming per day.
