A school bus transporting members of the boy’s winter track team from North Babylon High School crashed while leaving the school parking lot Sunday morning, injuring nine people.
Fire officials said the bus was heading to a track-and-field meet around 10 a.m.
They said the driver crashed into a pole.
Fire officials said about 30 people were on the bus.
They said the driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Nassau police said there is no criminality involved in the accident.
The Department of Environmental Conservation was also on the scene because the bus spilled fuel from its engine.
Earlier, Suffolk police said members of the wrestling team were on board the bus when it “struck a pole in the parking lot.”
A North Babylon fire official also said that 16 students were released to their parents.
An earlier version of this story based on preliminary police reports stated the bus was carrying members of the wrestling team. This was later clarified to be members of the track team. This story was updated to reflect that information.
