A new survey says smoking and e-cigarette use among middle school students has increased.
The 2023 National Youth Tobacco Survey from the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that 10% of middle and high school students currently use tobacco products, with e-cigarettes being the most popular.
The survey concluded that one in four middle school students who said they vape, do it every day.
Data shows that tobacco use among middle school students is up 2%.
However, with high school students, tobacco product use is down by about 4%.
Doctors say they want young people to know that similar to smoking, vaping contains highly addictive nicotine, which can impact teenagers' still developing brains.
The aerosol from smoking cigarettes and e-cigarettes also goes deep into the lungs.
Several studies are now looking into the long-term effects of vaping and lung cancer.
