Bridgeport police say 38-year-old Towanna Randall is due to appear in court Tuesday for the attempted kidnapping and alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl last Monday.
According to police, Randall was arrested Saturday night on charges of sexual assault, unlawful restraint and reckless endangerment.
Officials say Randall offered the teen a ride to school on Boston Avenue and then assaulted her once she was in the car.
Surveillance video from the Bridgeport's Safe Corridor Program captured the victim's dramatic escape from the car.
Police received several messages a day after releasing the video from people who said they saw the suspect's car and knew where she was.
Authorities say Randall has an extensive criminal history, including charges for robbery and selling drugs.
Police say they want to work more with residents to solve crimes. They say they are still tackling several unsolved cases and are relying on the public to come forward with information.
