The Syosset School District is now the latest district on Long Island to comply with the state order to remove Native American mascots and imagery.
The school board voted unanimously Monday night to get rid of its Braves mascot and name.
The school board says what comes next is finding out a way to make the state pay for the changes. It is estimated the football field would cost an estimated $70,000 to make the changes.
As News 12 has reported, the state education department banned all team names, logos and mascots using Native American imagery last month.
The move affects more than a dozen districts islandwide.
The districts have until the 2024-25 school year to make changes.
Other schools that will be impacted by the ban on Long Island are:
Sachem East and Sachem North Flaming Arrows
Comsewogue Warriors
Manhasset Indians
Brentwood Indians
Sewanhaka Indians
Wyandanch Warriors
Wantagh Warriors
Amityville Warriors
East Islip Redmen
Massapequa Chiefs
