Two teachers unions are calling on Gov. Dannel Malloy to increase taxes for the state's wealthiest residents.
The American Federation of Teachers and AFT Connecticut say it is not fair that the top one percent only pay 5.3 percent of their income in state and local taxes while everyone else pays 9.9 percent.
The unions say instead of cutting education funding, Malloy should have everyone pay their fair share. 
Malloy's has said there could be cuts to school funding as part of the next budget.
