New Canaan police have begun issuing tickets to skateboarders who roll around on town property.
Sergeant Carol Ogrinc says the police department started giving verbal warnings about skateboarding in the downtown area back in April, but they had little impact. She says confiscating boards didn?t work either. Now anyone 16 and older will get hit with a $75 fine, while those 15 and younger will receive a juvenile summons and be required to appear in court.
Kevin Johnson and other skateboarders in the area say the construction of a skate park will get them off the streets. Ogrinc says the police department fully supports a skate park and has created a committee to work on the project.
