A pizza has been named after Fairfield First Selectman Bill Gerber, who died back in July.
Gerber's wife, Jessica, told News 12 The Sasquanaug Association of Southport created "The Gerber" to pay tribute to her late husband.
The memorial pie, made by Proof Pizza Truck, was rolled out Saturday at the fourth annual Southport Onion Festival at the Pequot Library.
"He always loved making pizza, and trying new types of pizza, so the fact that there's now a pizza named for him is such a great honor and such a way to remember him," Jessica Gerber said. "He would laugh and he'd be thrilled and he would be really excited at the thought of being able to try it out, so he'd be the first one in line to get the pizza, a Gerber pizza."
She added that her husband was a big fan of sausage and peppers, so "The Gerber" features those ingredients, along with onions inspired by the Southport Onion Festival.
