Thousands turned out all over Connecticut for the American Cancer Society?s Relay for Life walks this weekend despite rain and cold weather.

Participants in the Wilton walk included survivors and their families, and even a team of students and their teacher. Westhill High School teacher Danielle Waring, a leukemia survivor who was diagnosed with the disease six year ago, organized a group of her students to walk.

Walkers said the event is about celebrating loved ones who have survived cancer and to honor those who have passed away.

The motto for the walk is Cancer Never Sleeps, members of each team walk over the twelve-hour period.

The town of Stratford also held a Relay for Life this weekend.
