A practice by Tibetan monks recently drew some large crowds to Redding.
The Buddhist monks created a piece of ritual sand art called a "World Peace Mandala."
The mandala is Sanskrit language. In English, it translates to "taking essence."
The "sand" used by the monks is not actually sand, but rather marble mixed with water color.
News 12 was told they work on the mandala for eight hours a day so they can finish in four days. The monks said they destroy the mandala afterward to teach the important of non-attachment.
